The owners Wayne & Jill McGriskin purchased the property in 2001. Unsure of what to grow on site, they arranged for a soil survey to be undertaken by Quinlan Soil Dynamics from Margaret River in November 2008. The results indicated the soil type was highly suitable for viticulture.
The vineyard was established in 2009 and the owners relocated to the site in 2011 to fulfill their dream of establishing their own wine label after a lifetime of working in finance and raising two daughters in Perth. Over the years the yield has steadily increased and the quality improved as the vines matured with age.
Each vintage is named after one of the children or grandchildren of the owners. In the case of the 2016 ‘Isabella’ Cabernet Blend it is named after the eldest of their two grandchildren.
At Stonegaze Vineyard we utilise natural organic farming practices with no chemical herbicides or pesticides and minimal interference to the dry grown vines. This minimalist approach is continued by our contract winemaker Josephine Perry of Dormilona who was awarded the Riedel Young Gun of Wine for Australia in 2016.
