  • DESCRIPTION The 2016 ‘Isabella’ is a single vineyard Bordeaux blend comprising 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec, 10% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. VINEYARD Situated one hundred and thirty metres above sea level, the vineyard is uniquely placed to receive cooling sea breezes from both the east and west. The site orientation is north/south with vine spacing at 1.5m and row width of 2.5m. The soil profile is a classic example of the well-drained gravelly soil famed in the region. Extensive granite gneiss rocks are present on site which adds to the mineral complexity available to the vines. WINEMAKERS TASTING NOTE Brilliant dark plum in appearance. Vibrant cherry & bright red berries on the nose with hints of dark chocolate & cedar. The palate is rich & complex. Bouncy blueberry fruit with earthy iron stone notes & subtle hints of spice. The Isabella is an extremely elegant wine, well balanced with excellent structure supported by silky tannins & seamless integrated French oak. WINEMAKERS COMMENTS The fruit was hand harvested in the cool mornings, directly de-stemmed & fermented on skins in open fermenters with post maceration for 10 – 12 weeks. Basket pressed direct to season French barriques for natural malolactic fermentation, before racking & bottling in March. Only minimal sulphur at bottling. FOOD Best served with rich red meats, game, pasta or spicy Asian dishes.
